Vol. 3 No. 1 (2019): Special Issue on Cyclone Idai: Perspectives on Climate Change and Development in light of Cyclone Idai, March 2019
This special issue of The Fountain Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies – FJIS, Volume 3, Issue No. 1 of 2019 is dedicated to all those who were affected by Cyclone Idai, and its victims. This climate change related natural disaster is arguably the most significant event of 2019 in the southern African region. Many would wish to forget it quickly. This is understandable given the devastation the cyclone wrought on people’s lives, property, wild life and the natural habitat. But forgetting it quickly would rob the region of lessons to be learnt and new survival strategies to be crafted for the future. Cyclone Idai was related to climate change, which according to many scientists is now a real threat to human livelihoods. Focusing on this theme in this issue of The Fountain is relevant to the extent that the negative effects of climate change are now widely felt in many parts of the world and call for radical innovations in human behavior, habits and technology to ensure human survival.
